Hearing Tests
in New Brighton, PA

A hearing test is the first step in identifying hearing loss and managing it. The hearing test itself is quick and easy. You’ll sit in a soundproof booth with a pair of headphones on and listen for a series of sounds that vary in frequency, pitch, and volume. We’ll ask you to identify when you hear a sound and record your results on an audiogram. You’ll also complete a speech recognition test to determine if hearing loss has affected your ability to recognize certain words.

Hearing loss is categorized as mild, moderate, moderately severe, and severe or profound. It’s important to understand what degree of hearing loss you have so the appropriate management options can be used.

Hearing Aid Fitting

To ensure your hearing aids are providing you with the right amount of amplification for your unique listening environments, it’s crucial that your devices are fit and programmed to you. Our hearing specialists are experts in hearing aid technology and have experience with all of the major manufacturers’ software.

Your new hearing aids will be fit to your unique ear shape, so they sit comfortably yet securely in/around your ear. Then, using the results of your hearing exam, our team will program your hearing aids so they provide you with clarity.

Hearing Aid Repairs

Hearing aids require proper care and regular maintenance to stay performing their best. We recommend bringing your devices in every six months for a check-up and deep cleaning. If your hearing aids require repairs we can fix most issues the same day in office. For more serious damage we can send your hearing aids to the manufacturer to be repaired.

Man experiencing tinnitus symptoms such as ringing in the ears

Tinnitus Management

Tinnitus, also known as “ringing in the ears,” is incredibly common, affecting millions of people. Tinnitus itself is not a hearing disorder, but a symptom of another underlying issue. If you have experienced annoying, persistent tinnitus, a hearing evaluation can help. During the evaluation we’ll perform a tinnitus test to determine how tinnitus is affecting you and what the underlying cause may be.

Treatment for tinnitus can include a variety of options, one of the most common being hearing aids. Many hearing devices offer a tinnitus masking feature that can help distract your brain from tinnitus. Although hearing aids won’t stop ringing in the ears completely, they can greatly help. Contact us today to learn how you can find relief from tinnitus.

Hearing specialist flushing built-up earwax from a patient’s ear

Cerumen Management

Earwax, medically known as cerumen, can build-up inside the ear canal leading to a blockage or the feeling of clogged ears. This can lead to itchiness, feelings of fullness, and even muffled hearing. At Sims Hearing, we can safely and effectively flush the ears of built-up wax, so you can hear clearly again.
